The Next Frontier for ESG: Nature and Circularity

By Alexandra Banks Partner, Climate Change and Sustainability Services, EY

In December 2022, 188 governments signed the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, a once-in -a-decade agreement that has been described as the Paris agreement for nature and biodiversity. At the same time, the IFRS announced that the ISSB standards would be adapted to incorporate nature, and the Taskforce for Nature Related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) is nearing completion. Nature and biodiversity will be critical issues for the property sector in the next decade, and circularity is one of several mechanisms that will be deployed by the property sector to meet this challenge. This session will explore these emerging issues and how they are likely to influence the ESG agenda across property value chains for the next decade:

    • How will property companies measure and manage their impacts and dependencies on nature, including through the adoption of circular business models?
    • The connection between decarbonisation and nature positive
    • The role of voluntary standards and emerging regulation in the protecting and resorting nature and biodiversity
